Tasting: Tinta de Toro, although Tempranillo, is generally considered a DNA variant of Tempranillo, it has smaller berries and ticker skins so makes much bigger wines than Tempranillo in the Duero valley generally does. Made by Frenchman Antony Terryn, who has a stunning array of old vine plantings in Toro. Powerful, spicy, earthy black fruit, cassis, mulberries and scrub herbs with amazingly soft polished tannins.
