Raúl created Ermita del Conde to preserve the history of the land by recovering century old
vineyards planted with tinto fino (tempranillo), and prevent the extinction of the areas white
variety, albillo mayor.
Their mountain vineyards, purchased from local farmers, consist of twenty
hectares at 1000m, over clay, sand and limestone under the watchful eye of the Sierra de la
Demanda. The climate here is very harsh with severe frosts in spring and searingly high
The vineyards which are just outside of the D.O. of Ribera del Duero are farmed organically,
many of them are ungrafted. The fruit for all of their wine goes through a rigorous selection
process, on both conveyor belt and a vibrating sorting table to ensure that all raw material that is
included in the fermentation is in perfect condition.
