Josep Mitjans - Loxarel, Vilobí del Penedès, Catalunya

Loxarel, a play on the name of their signature variety xarel.lo, is headed by Josep Mitjans an extremely talented enologist who made his first 1,000 bottles of wine at the age of 16.


Made from parcels of xarel.lo, syrah and garnachas tinta and blanca, his wines are certified organic and are made from vineyards managed biodynamically in Alt Penedès, he is part of a group called Terra Dinámica who get together every three months to make biodynamic preparations), some of his wines employ skin contact and fermentation and ageing in amphora.


The cellar is based in Vilobí del Penedès in a converted air raid shelter from the Spanish civil war.
